We noticed this the other day out of our bedroom window . . .
Yes, an egg. Did we put it there, no!
So when B was out watering the foundation of the house, yes, you read that correctly, watering the foundation*, we found this . . .
Yep a mama dove, nesting up in our tree, she's well hidden! We really hope she has more eggs, because we don't think the one on the ground is going to make it.
So with the baby bunnies we had earlier in the spring and now the baby birds, we're filling out paperwork to become an actual refuge for a tax write-off! Ok, maybe not. ;)
*Side note: Texas has been HOT this summer; today will be day 31 in a row of over 100 degree heat (and yes, we are still keeping up our regular outside runs, C says it makes us tougher!). When it gets this hot the Texas clay dries up and can reek havoc on building foundations. In order to prevent serious damage and expense, you water the house foundation and it helps to keep it from cracking. Weird, we know. When we first moved here and people told us of this practice we looked at them like they had 3 heads, but now we know and are believers . . . and it's a cheaper than a new foundation.
Until next time, we're on Cloud 9!
