Cutie Pies

This past weekend we had some friends over for dinner and played with a new dessert. C's sister told us about pies she had eaten that were in a 4 oz. mason jar. So we decided to give it a try. They turned out pretty well!
We made peach and apple pies. The cool thing about these little pies is you can make a bunch, put the lid on, place them in the freezer, and pop them in the oven (a cold oven so the glass doesn't break) whenever you need a dessert. They are the prefect size and so fun to make and eat!

I found clear directions and a recipe on Food Babbles. One thing I did different and to save time, was cut two circles out of the dough for each pie, one for the bottom and one for the top. I pressed one circle in the bottom, filled the sides with the excess dough, filled and topped with the other circle. If you make these make sure to put a vent in the top, we used a little tiny flower cookie cutter. It took me about and hour to make 12 pies, we baked 6 and froze the rest. They bake for about 30-35 minutes. Test it out, you'll love them too! Enjoy!

Until next time we're on Cloud 9!

P.S. We also thought making a Chicken Pot Pie in the 8 oz. mason jars would be delicious too . . . maybe this fall. ;)

  1. So glad you found my site and made these mini pies in mason jars! I love your idea of making chicken pot pie in mason jars... Brilliant! Also, great idea about cutting out top and bottom circles. I'll try it your way next time I make these.
