The Joy of Being a Homeowner - 001

First things first, C and I love being homeowners. However, when you wake up to water running down the sidewalk and this on a Saturday morning,
it is a little discouraging, particularly when you're going out of town on Wednesday!

After a few calls to our dads to figure out what to do, C turned off the sprinkler valve and started bailing the water out . . .. Well, the water continued to pour into the sprinkler box. So C started to dig to see if he could find the problem. After a few hours, we had a large hole in the front yard, and the water kept on coming!

Deciding that we were getting nowhere I started asking our neighbors and calling our friends from church to see if they has a sprinkler company they would recommend. No one had a company they would recommend! So I looked up a few local companies and called their emergency lines . . . no response! Seriously!?!?! Just before I went out to tell C the dismal news I said a quick little prayer, because we were in need of some divine intervention at this point. I went outside to find C talking to one of the neighbors who had a sprinkler guy he had used and recommended, wheww!

We called Juan and he said he'd be over in 2 hours. When Juan came, he turned off the city water line and started sucking out the water:

Low and behold he found the problem. There is a joint between the city line into our house and the sprinkler system, and the joint had come loose. Juan tightened the joint back up, to stop the water leak, but he suggested we change the line to copper instead of PVC; we agreed. So Monday our sprinkler guardian angel Juan came back and replace the PVC joint with copper. His work was beautiful and he put our yard back together.

We are so grateful that we caught the leak before we left for Thanksgiving, I can't imagine the water bill if we didn't catch it until after we came back!!! And if you're in need of a sprinkler guy, we now know who to call!

Until next time we're living on cloud 9!
