Some pictures in case you want the short story:
For the first week off we headed to Denver to spend Christmas with my family. It was nice to be home to see my family we hadn't seen them since our wedding. While we were in Colorado we took advantage of the Colorado snow and hit the slopes at Arapahoe Basin with my dad and brother. We had a great time and loved seeing the mountains after the Texas flat. We also enjoyed some good cooking from my mom's kitchen.
This Christmas I decided to start our first family tradition as a married couple, where we open a pair of new pajamas on Christmas Eve. It was fun to see C's face when he opened the present and figured out what the tradition was that I had been hiding from him. We enjoyed our first Christmas together and look forward to creating more family memories and traditions.
The day after Christmas we flew to Seattle to start our LONG-AWAITED honeymoon!!!
We flew into Seattle so we could drive to Port Angeles, WA where we planned to catch the ferry to Victoria, BC. Flying into Seattle was a little bit of a mess because of flight delays (weather and the underpants bomber scare). Our ski bag was delayed by a good 4 hours and couldn't be delivered to Port Angeles! So we picked up the Jeep Commander rental car and headed to Seattle's open air market, home to Pike's Place fish market, to kill some time before we had to pick up the ski bag . . back at the airport.
The market was a happening place and had everything you could imagine. After walking around for awhile and seeing the original Starbucks, we got a grilled cheese and headed back to the airport to get the skis.
After a few hours drive we finally got to Port Angeles. The next day we caught the ferry to Victoria. As we were in line to get on the ferry and watching the arriving cars unload, with no pun intended I told C, "This is a boat load of cars!" The ferry ride was cool! We we landed in Victoria we headed to the Empress Hotel, a classic of Victoria. We spent 2 days in Victoria. We loved exploring the city (wax museum and all!) and driving around the island.
After deciding that we should retire in Victoria we caught another Ferry that took us to Vancouver. In Vancouver we drove the sea-to-sky highway to Whistler. The drive was breathtaking. C thinks that when God created the earth He must have started in British Columbia! We got to Whistler and had organic pizza delivered to our condo - they are very into Organic in Whistler - and it was delicious! After a good night rest we hit the ski slopes of Whistler-Blackcomb for 2 DAYS!!!!!!!!!!!!
No wonder the Olympics were in BC, the skiing was world class! On day 1 we took the lifts clear to the top of Whistler Mountain, literally the glacier was on the other side of the mountain, and skied our little hearts down, and it was fantastic! The snow, scenery and of course honeymooning was stellar! Day 2 we took the Peak 2 Peak gondola and skied Blackcomb where most of the Olympics were held.
We got to spend New Year's Eve in Whistler Village, it was just fun! We had dinner at this darling restaurant, 21 Steps (you go up 21 steps to get to the restaurant). C had a beautiful salmon fillet, of course, and I has a salmon linguine that was stellar! We loved eating in the Canadian restaurants, they are so much more relaxed and the meals are more portioned than in the States.
On New Year's day we headed back to Seattle. Coming back through the border the border patrol wanted to know what relation C and I had to each other, I said, "um . . . husband and wife, we're on our honeymoon!?!?!" Those border patrol people are scary, you don't want to mess with them! It was nice however to be back in the U. S. of A.!
Keeping with our Temple visiting tradition, we went to the Seattle LDS Temple before we flew back to Denver, it was pretty dang awesome!
So after our 2 week wonderful adventure with family and beautiful scenery, we came back to reality and headed to work on Monday! But watching the Olympics brought us back that week in BC that was SO wonderful!
Until next time, we're Living on Cloud 9!

That unintended pun about the cars was one in a million. I tip my hat to you!
